Weight Loss - The Truth

Research shows that 95% of people who follow a weight loss programme regain all the weight they lose within three years.

WHY?

Crash diets effectively starve the body, causing dramatic weight loss. In an attempt to survive, the body eats away at muscle tissue for energy, slows its metabolism, and produces a special fat storing substance (lipoprotein lipase). All these survival mechanisms reduce the body's ability to lose fat.

If you do not eat enough, your body effectively eats itself. Up to 30-40% of a 2lb weekly weight loss can equate to a loss of muscle tissue. It is therefore fat loss, not weight loss that you should concentrate on. This can be measured using a bio-impedance monitor. Ditching the scales could be the best thing you ever do.

Excess fat storage is the result of an imbalance between your energy intake and expenditure. Reducing intake alone (starving yourself) does not work. An effective weight management programme must combine exercise with sound nutritional advice and support.

The good news is you don't need to start running marathons; Exercise with your Personal Trainer will be at a safe, comfortable intensity which will be constantly monitored and developed to ensure maximum fat burn.

The long-term aims are to increase muscle tissue, increase metabolism and lower production of lipoprotien lipase (the exact opposite of dieting). All this helps the body to burn fat even when you are resting!

Is it worth the effort?

Obesity is linked to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, joint damage and depression. Even being mildly overweight can affect your self-confidence and enjoyment of everyday life. By undertaking a personal weight management programme you can and you will achieve your goals and improve your quality of life for life , not just the next few weeks.
